Committee Report – Teacher Appreciation – Chairs: Monica Lynch/Steven Traylor

  • Halloween Treats – Monica made 175 treats for teachers and put in their mailboxes; total cost $200

  • Next event will be Holiday Lunch – Wed Dec 13th

    • Parents drop off food donations/ Boosters buy chicken

    • Monica - will sign up genius the week after Thanksgiving for food sign-ups and raffle items

    • Boosters can purchase snacks/tissues to provide teachers for classrooms (discussed with Ms Berg)

    • Need partner with Monica to shadow how this is done

      • Christine Redel volunteered to work together with Monica

    • Need volunteer to set up Amazon wish list:

  • Update on Grants in progress/completed/last month:

  • Maury GED Program – in progress; teacher purchasing and providing receipts

  • Maury CEIS Program - completed

  • Maury Math Department – on hold; school likely funding this one

  • Install of Refrigerator/Washer/Dryer – Brian following up, issues with delivery/installation

  • New Grant Applications Nov 2023 Summary (full grant info attached to agenda):

Two Grants (2324-08 and 2324-09) came up for an electronic vote on October 30. Both grants were approved by a majority vote. The Cheer Team grant has been paid while the Chargers grant is on hold until after the Chromebooks have been collected by the school and an assessment of need has been made. Requestor: Maury High Cheer Team

Amount of Grant:  $605

Request: Snack Bags and Meals for the ride up to the 5B Regional Championships

Number of students benefited:  26-46 Team Members

Maury Cheer is going to the 5B Regional Championships on November 4th at VCU. They will be staying overnight in Richmond and have asked for assistance in providing food for the Cheer Team for their trip. We've encouraged the Cheer team to apply for additional grants after we approved their last grant for Pom Poms only.  Cheer Team placed 5th in State.

Requestor: Maury Administration

Amount of Grant:  $1000

Request: 100 Chromebook Chargers 

Number of students benefited: 100 students

Maury Administration reports that over 300 students still do not have chargers for their Chromebooks (and over 175 students don't have Chromebooks). This will help fill the gap so they can use the Chromebooks at home. 

One grant submitted, grant 2324-10, has been denied pre-Board vote by Maury Athletic Director Tommy Staples. He has agreed to pay for the six masks requested out of the Maury Athletic budget before the beginning of next season.

Amount of Grant:  $420

Request: Six Field Hockey Masks

Number of students benefited: 23

Masks will be used by all players during penalty shots for additional protection during the game. 

We have one grant. 2324-11, that needs to be voted on during the Nov Board meeting from Samantha Wegener from the Maury Arts Department. It is as follows:

Request: Power Tools (Jigsaw, Workbench, Battery Charger for Drill) for Sculpture/Crafts Program

Number of students benefited: 86


Students are currently using hand tools on a trashcan with a wooden top and a clamp.

Committee Report – Fundraising

  • Fruit Sale is live; all orders due 11/26 

  • Order Update (Jennifer Moody): sold 43 boxes, only 2 new customers; need 100 boxes to place order

    1. Flyers printed – Courtney handed out flyers to businesses

    2. Courtney e-mailed coaches to ask if their teams could distribute flyers, no response from coaches

    3. Julie Walsh will follow up with the clubs/teams who received grants this year and ask if their students can distribute the flyers in local neighborhoods (Note: can’t put in mailboxes, can put on doors or under mat)

    4. Ghent Neighborhood Civic League – Anne Marie Wynne to promote the fruit sale

    5. Anne Marie – hosting Cross Country Team on Sunday, will ask them to come over 30 min early to distribute flyers near Hague neighborhood

    6. Ghent Square Civic League – Megan Kiefner

    7. Anyone who is on Nextdoor – please post on Nextdoor, any social media

    8. Christine will send Fruit Sale e-mail today/tomorrow and regularly until the deadline; ideas for e-mails:

      4. Promote ordering fruit for gifts

  • Help needed on 12/11? (pick-up date) Any other help needed? – Jennifer to let us know

  • Corporate Sponsor Banner – hung at school and football field. 

  • New Fundraising Idea – Trivia Night – Fri Feb 2nd 7:30-9:30, stay later is an option

  • Goal – Fundraiser/Raise awareness of Boosters/Fun night for parents and teachers

  • Smartmouth offered free space Feb 2nd

    1. Mr Wright would emcee the event

    3. Can fit up to 200, most comfortable at 150

  • Purchase a ticket, get a beer with the ticket (cost of beer, tax and gratuity ~$10) decide on pricing of ticket keeping in mind $10 goes to the cost of the beer

  • Can also do a silent auction for additional fundraising

  • 50/50 Raffle

  • Various topics – Mr Wright will help organize trivia

  • Can also do Maury trivia, pull in alums, retired teachers, coaches, cameo appearances

  • Buy a ticket, sponsor a teacher ticket

  • Create your own team, up to 10

  • If you are a single, you can show up and ask to be assigned to a team

  • Other fundraising ideas: Sell corsages and boutonnieres during Prom season. Senior Prom is 4/26. If successful, we should do it during Homecoming next year.

    • Garden Club could assist with making the corsages

    • Mary Fox used to be a florist so can offer assitance

  • T-shirt sales – basketball games / swim meets; waiting on Tommy for answer about selling at games

  • Possibly consider sweatshirt sales next school year

    • Have people pre-order sweatshirts so we aren’t stuck with leftovers

Treasurer’s Report – Treasurer: Sarah Wesley 

  • Treasury update: Current Balance $32, 658

  • Sarah will send an e-mail with the amount t-shirts made

  • Julie Walsh received debit card to process Grants more efficiently

  • Status of Process Sheet to be created by Sarah regarding selling items, using Square, etc (Action item from last meeting)

  • Cross country fundraiser concluded:  $989

  • Ms Lovell is collecting clothes for give-away to students in need; Trinity Presbyterian is assisting with this effort
